What are some of your favorite materials combinations?
User: Hand rubbed straight steel blade, glass bead blasted ti bolsters, burgundy micarta
Semi-fancy: replace w/ curly koa
Fancy: Straight steel, MOP and Timascus :D
There's so many colors and combinations possible in custom knives!

User, Satin finish blade and bolster. I don't care for bead blast. I also like burgundy micarta
Semi-Fancy, While I love koa, 'good' ivory micarta is also nice.
Fancy, A nice hammon line just screams "this is a quality class blade. It goes very well with natural handle materials. Ivory is very classy. The right wood can also work very well.

User:4" to 4.25" blade with a stonewash finish with a flipper or"Speed-Safe"assisted opener.Handles:I prefer a Ti-framelock with some degree of orange peel, and maybe some carving/engraving;but if it's a linerlock:OD/carbon fiber scales with Ti bolsters with orange peel.
Fancy:Timascus framelock with either a damascus or plain steel blade no bigger than 3.5".Linerlock: orange peeled ti-bolsters with afzelia lay wood scales and blade steel can be damascus or plain steel no bigger than 3.5".Either with a thumb opener:be it hole or thumb stud.
Blade design:fighter variant, the KO "Heatwave" blade design or an upswept recurve.Gee,i wonder what i could come up with if i really gave it some thought?:D

I am of the mind, that if you don't use it, it isn't a knife at all, but rather an object d'art.
Don't get me wrong, I apprieciate the art pieces, I even own a few. But it is the knife that lives in the leg pocket of my Carhartt's that I have a special bond with.
At this point in time that is a Titanium handle, framelock, ZDP-189 Leek. It is functionally perfect.
Aside from the forum knife (if I am offered one), I will never buy another knife that isn't ZDP-189. Until they come out with something better, of course...

I like ivory and ivory micarta, carbon fiber, titanium, and timascus for handle materials. I prefer a hand rub satin blade.
Of course Ti and Cai engraving always rocks!!
BE: Why do you think ZDP-189 is so much better then all the other steels out there like S30V, CPM154CM, BG-42 and, hell, ATS-34? I haven't used the ZDP-189 and am curious. Personally, I don't find a huge difference between any of the above, it really depends more on the heat treat is what I have found.

I guess if I could pick it would be a heatwave with a ZDP blade mirror polished with a Dlc coating, a ti s bolster, bead blasted and coated, and abalone mastadon ivory.
